Happy Birthday layout - From a sketch

Happy July to everyone!! We celebrated Canada Day here (on July 1st) with style as it was my youngest son's birthday and he got to pick his day.  I set a limit on birthday parties at age 10 (as at that point I had then put on 20 kid parties and was both exhausted of them and broke!! haha) so he got to pick the menu for the day and 2 activities to do.  Here is what the hidden journalling reveals:

1. Pancakes for breakfast, with bacon!
2.  Open presents and then SURPRISE!! a new kayak down at the lake for you and a paddle around.
3.  Go carts!!  Two rides and the 2nd it was just you and Garret.
4.  Hot dogs for lunch, with chips!
5. Glow-in-the-dark mini golf.  That was so cool.
6. Pizza for dinner.
7.  Ice cream cake for dessert.
8.  Some friends over to play video games until 9:00 pm!!  (and don't forget the game that Garret downloaded for you as his gift.  You really liked it.)

I used this week's sketch from Citrus Twist and actually did this on the floor on quick work breaks so no video on this one.

Hump Day Challenge - May 27, 2015

Happy Thursday scrappy people!  I am stopping by very quickly to post my Hump Day challenge layout from the Victoria Marie FB Group. I am very excited to be on her very first Challenge Team starting in June!! (more about that soon!).

This Wednesday's challenge was a sketch (and there is a BONUS sketch for PL which I hope to also use after I get my butt in gear and order the last 6 weeks of photos!!)

Here is my layout and a couple close ups AND a process video (done very quickly with no editing):

(FYI, I ended up making 1 change to this layout after I posted the video. All I did was move the middle layout OVER the pp with the muffins on it. You can still see a couple rows of muffins but not so much. I like it a LOT better now).

Thanks for stopping by!!

Project Life - March 23-29, 2015

Happy Thursday and I am here to share my most recent Project Life spread.  I am slowly doing a catch up but... seriously I need to hurry up and catch up as I think I am not farther behind. I might need to start doing 1 recent and 1 behind layout at a time and meet in the middle :)

Here is the layout itself:

And I don't usually do close up of each card but here are a few. I used the Sketch Class that Citrus Twist did and for each sketch you use and add to the gallery you are entered for a monthly draw. I have NEVER used a sketch for my PL before but numerous times in the class the contributors did so I thought, hey, I should give it a go and ended up using 5!!!

Sorry, no video this time!  My phone was almost out of battery last night and my cord won't reach when it is on my recording clamp.  Next time!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my layout playing along with this sketch over at the Let's Get Sketchy blog.

Week 5 - Let's Get Sketchy challenge

Hi everyone!  I have been away and not getting any scrapping done but while I was away I got lots of super cute photos of my nieces for pages.  Here is my first one of my 2-year-old niece from my trip up to see her and her new baby sister.

I played along with this new blog I just found called "Let's Get Sketchy".  This week it was a sketch and moodboard.  Here is their sketch:

And here is their moodboard:

I loved the springy colours and raided my stash for some fun and fresh spring colours.  Here is my take on it:

And a couple of close ups:

I used quite a bit of the first Shimelle collection for papers and die cuts.  I also had made that background paper myself using Heidi Swapp mists and using this die cut called The Heart Felt from The Cut Shoppe as a mask.

Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, also, I already posted about it but Let's Get Sketchy is currently having a design team call.  You have until April 8th to try out.

Thanks for stopping by!!

CS Sketch # 268

Morning!! I was up and awake early this am due to the pitter patter of little feet stomping and yelling of enormous tween feet :)  My eldest had a friend sleep over and the 2 of them, and shortly thereafter, my youngest were up before 7am.

So what to do but finish this sketch since it needed to be in today and has been sitting in various levels of completeness for a week :)

Here is the Creative Scrappers sketch:

And here is my version:

It needs to sit with something heavy on it for a while as I went a bit mist crazy and the edges are all curling up :)  These are OLD pictures from the fall/winter of 2003/2004 when my oldest (the above mentioned heavy-footed tween who is almost 12) was 1 and a half.  I was the one behind the camera in those days so there are a lot of photos by his proud mom of him with his dad who he adored. (he still does just not in that same toddler way).

Creative Scrappers - Sketch 255

Sorry, a quick break in my studio tour to post my version of the CS Sketch 255.  I need to retake the layout shot tomorrow (it's evening here so I can't get a shot without a shade of me in front of the light!) but wanted to post.

Here is the original sketch:

And here is my version!  I used a mix of the Sept & Oct Noel Mignon kits as well as some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Navy (from the new Nov kit as I just could NOT keep my hands off of it!!).

Here's a close up of the top embellishments. I kept this layout pretty simple.  This was my son's1st birthday (the aftermath of his first cake eating) so finally got to use this wood veneer 1!!

Close up of the title and large star. Can you see how GORGEOUS the new Heidi Swapp navy is?  Oh I'm in love!!!

Be back soon with the rest of my studio tour!

Noel Mignon - October Sketch

HI all,

A quick post to show you my October sketch challenge layout.  I snuck it in on Friday.  I altered Julie's sketch just a bit as I had 3 photos I wanted to use.  This is using the September kit.

Here is Julie's sketch:

And here is my take on it!

Wee bit busy photos but in person it is much easier to see (and I was rushing a bit and took this at a terrible time of day... oops).  The journalling tells about how when the big group of us does New Year's together we do appies all night (rather than dinner) and the adults play canasta and the kids play video games. Then we gather together close to midnight to watch the Seattle space needle fireworks on tv and have champagne.

Keep scrapping!!

Monday Inspiration

I followed the new "Sketch It 5" challenge over at the Scrapbookin' Adventures Facebook page and came up with this:

This uses a lot off different papers and embellishments from my stash.  Having it stored the way I do now, I go for colour or matching a multi-colour rather than worry a lot about which manufacturer I'm grabbing (but I definately still have my favs!!).  The yellow is Close to My Heart, blue and multi is October Afternoon.  Green is Basic Grey.  The stickers are all Echo Park from the masculine This & That collection. The tag and banners are from MME "On The Bright Side" collection 12x12 die cut sheets.

These are WalMart pics of my eldest at 9 months old.  The right picture is actually a 5x7 horizontal but I tucked it behind the vertical picture as all that is missing is empty space and a picnic basket. I'm not much on "props" in pictures so didn't mind hiding that! I didn't want it in the first place and only ordered that print cause of his cute expression.  He had been so exciting when she was taking his picture he was giggling and flapping his arms around :)  He LOVED getting his picture taken!

Have a great day!

Boy in a Box

Sorry for the bad picture but I did this this evening and it's very dark outside!! This was as good as it got for 9pm and with my iPhone (and with me tired, haha).  This follows the LilyBee Design sketch from Monday (October 22nd) and uses up some REALLY old paper from Cherry Arte.  Their sketch had banners in the top left, paint splatters and a design cluster in the middle right side... so this paper did most of that for me!!

I added some MME words in the top left as well as an asterick from the same AC Thickers font as "boy" and "box".  The flag is from Bella Blvd and the wood banner is MME Fun Day collection.  The circle in the bottom right and by the wood banner I made myself to replicate the top left on the paper.  Looks like a pretty decent copy, if I do say so myself :)  That bottom right corner has a MME arrow, Jillibean Soup word and another one of those astericks from the Thickers.  They were pretty close to the "splats" on the paper and helped pull the lettering in a bit more.

Here's to a wonderful and creative week ahead!!

Club CK sketch

Here's another layout I did based on a sketch challenge. I noticed the Creating Keepsakes also had an August sketch so I thought I'd play along.  I decided to "double down" on it too and use the challenge from over at Scrapbookin' Adventures to use red, cream, gray and black.  NOT colours I traditionally use but once I had a piece of pp to start out from (the fabulous grey woodgrain from Authentique) I was rolling. Then I also remembered that Jenni Bowlin has awesome red, cream and black stuff too!

Here it is:  (another 2011 layout done, whoot whoot)

August Sketch Challenge

Well, I took so long to get the July one done I thought I'd do the August one right away :)  Here is my take on the August sketch challenge over at Noel Mignon.  I changed it up a bit as their's had circles and I continued the banner theme and added the triangles pointing to the picture.  I journaled right onto the page which is new to me and a bit hard at first to just put pen to paper.  But think it looks okay and next time I'll do better.

My fav thing about this layout? (other than the colours and that this is another 2011 one done!) Is that I finally stamped on a layout!!  I always see people doing it, think it looks great and then don't.  So I finally did. Helped that the August kit had a fabulous little stamp set in it (Dear Lizzy by American Crafts - the camera and the "Smile")

Sketch of the week

I am currently obsessed with Shimelle Laine and every layout, video or class she's ever done.  Yes, I will admit it.  But I love her style and love her videos that she does start to finish with just a bit of creative editing (cause she's right, we really don't need to sit and watch her ink everything but I love that she TELLS us she did that!).  So I am obsessively working through her awesome blog (www.shimelle.com) and found her Sketch of the Week series. Here is my take on her sketch for Nov 2, 2011.  I did some serious scraplifting here but loved the simplicity of the layout and how it let the picture be the focus.  Cause this was one of those pictures I cry while I scrapbook (yes, I know I look really happy in it).  And one that after I take it... I almost dread scraping it cause I know it's gonna make me cry.

So here is Shimelle's version:

scrapbooking sketch and scrapbook page ideas

And here is mine:

And so you know why this seemingly happy picture made me cry, here is the journalling:
"I'm always sad the day before the boys' birthdays.  My babies are growing up and while I love their new independence and traits, I miss them little.  So my last hug ever from a seven year old of mine cause he's (title) not quite EIGHT yet..."

Take the time to do something scrappy today.
