Another couple layouts with my January Hit Kit

Hi everyone!

Unfortunately illness and crop prep have hit my house (I sort of associate them both with bad feelings, haha!!!) so I have been MIA a bit. Here are 2 layouts I did recently and apologize they did not get posted here. It is hard to post everywhere...

This first was a white on white challenge from the Hip Kit forum on Facebook. I also have a Process Video for this one:

This second layout I do not have a process video for as I had a wee incident with my platform :) I had fun using the chipboard and cut apart sheet from Crate Paper Love Notes. I am not a huge pink person so this is just the right balance for me.

I also use the super cute roller stamp from Dear Lizzy that came in the embellishment kit to stamp that "love" on the blue tag.

The You and Me phrase stickers are from the Dear Lizzy alphabet and the "remember this" is from the Elle's Studio cork embellishments that were both in the main kit.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Up next, I am doing a video and blog post on how I prep for a crop. While I really get frustrating when I am doing it (as I would much rather scrap than prep!!!) it means I get a TON done at a crop and used to get 30-40 layouts done at a weekend crop. I am only going on a 12-hour crop this Saturday but over prepping is NOT a bad thing!! It means I have leftovers to make scrapping at home super fast and easy.

Second layout with the January Hip kit

Here is my 2nd layout using this month's kit. I will be totally honest, I REALLY struggled with this layout!! I did some misting, gesso, 3 discarded backgrounds, changed the orientation, changed BACK the orientation to finally land here. And here I am good with. It is not quite where I had wanted it but... it highlights the photo and that was really what I had wanted. I think I was just struggling with the floral paper from Heidi Swapp. It is stunningly beautiful and even though this has just one, relatively simple, photo... I was stuggling to keep the paper from being the star. I ended up gessoing it a bit (a bit unevenly but think I kind of like that actually). It softened it just a bit and let me move on to finishing it.

You can't tell from the photos, despite me really trying, that there is a very faint pink mist on the upper half. It is white cardstock that looked just a bit too stark white so I actually sprayed Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Blush on a baby wipe and gently dabbed it on. It is very soft and gave me the look I was going for (I had really wanted just a very soft pink cs but did not have any!).

Oh, I almost forgot to mention!! I used the current sketch (#424) from Scrapbook Challenges to get me started on this layout. I only had 1 photo though so changed it up a bit that way.

First layout with the January Hip Kit

Here is my first layout using my January Hip Kit. I have been a subscriber here since October (started with the November kit) and I could NOT be happier with them. I find the kits always have so many amazing papers and coordinating products... I am never at a loss creatively and in fact, if you see my previous posts about how I killed my November and December kits you will see I used them to the max!!!

This layout I did with a photo I took in early May of 2014. I was sitting on our comfy chairs on the front porch enjoying some "porch sitting" as we call it. It is just our time to sit and be quiet or my husband and I will sit together and talk or read or whatever. It is like our "adult room" so to speak. Our place to get a break and take a breath and think. We love our boys to death but... with work, school, kids, activities and now the uglies of puberty starting ... a break is so necessary sometimes :)

Here is my layout:

Such soft pretty colours in this new Dear Lizzy Serendipity line. I could not resist immediately using this pink/rose gold background paper. The border along the top of the page was fussy cut from the B side of that paper which was a pink notebook-style page that had a pink scallop border on the top. I layered it up with some other papers from that collection and the Kraft Hello Love paper from Amy Tangerine Stitched. This was finished with that stunning Crate Paper "Kiss Kiss" chipboard tag (isn't that chunky gold glitter killer?!) The puffy pink scallop and "love this" stickers are also from Dear Lizzy as are the "shine" script word and gold hearts which were from the December kit (also from the same line).

12 Days of Christmas - Day 3!!!!

So, let me start by saying one thing first. I am dumbfounded I have done 3 layouts in 3 days. Seriously. And 3 I like! But I am going to just ride the wave and enjoy it. (while also believing this can't possibly happen a 4th day in a row... or can it?)

The fun challenge for Day 3 of Victoria Marie's 12 Days of Christmas challenge is "Three awesome die cuts (or more)!" So... I went to town and there are more die cuts on this layout than I may EVER have done before. I borrowed VERY heavily for the concept from a layout Irit Landgraf over on the Hip Kit design team in October. She had used die cuts and other pieces all around a square photo. It was really fun, like a reverse puzzle. I started with that blue snowflake tag and just kept picking up and putting down all the pieces from the Elle's Studio die cut, wood veneer and cut-apart sheet until I was happy with how it looked.

BTW, super happy coincidence that the advent calendar on the picture (a CTMH kit from about 3 years ago) was all red, green and blue, the same as the Elle's Studio pieces.

There are also some very tiny sprinkles of Heidi Swapp Color Shine mist in Citron and Blush to pull in a bit more of the lime green and pink. (and I believe I am actually in capable of doing a layout without adding color shine).

PL Sunday

Well, I kept going on Saturday with my Project Life spreads. I did clean my office too (I'll post a pic on Monday) but most got done on the floor as I used up bits and pieces rather than having to put them away. It's motivating when you know you need to clean... I use up so much stash that way :)

This week I had a full "side" but had a couple extra pictures I also wanted to use. Rather than trying to fill up another full page protector I found an insert to put in the few extra pictures.

I look at it now and see I really was cramming a lot in so likely just doing a double page spread would have worked better with a couple filler cards. Oh well. Used mostly Elle's Studio on this one.

Here's the front side of the insert for the same week. We had all gotten new shoes the weekend before and I thought it was cute we all had New Balance so took a picture. It also surprised me with how BIG my boys feet are now. Not so very far off from adult sized shoes!

Filler cards, a picture of a friend's baby wearing a sweater I bought when she was born (bought it big as they didn't have any smaller sizes but was SO cute I had to send it!!)

Also used this "everything is going to be OK" card as life was very hectic and crazy and I was feeling it a LOT this week.

Here the next week. My youngest and I were fighting colds so got a shot of our bodum of tea (we drank a LOT of it all week to help with congestion and achy bodies) I also got a few random everyday shots of us. A Costco run, my son doing school work, a failed dinner where we ended up having tuna melts as the chicken wasn't ready, a cool display of apples in a grocery store. I also documented our ferry ride to Vancouver. We live on an island but it's big and has most everything here so... I think we forget sometimes it is an island!

And here is the next week (and caught up now to the spread I posted Saturday!). Again, taking pictures of everyday things; T to B, L to R, : big grocery shop that I prepped for easy dinners, my son at art class, my first attempt at making calzones, me at the hairdresser finally getting my hair done after months and months of having to cancel appts, my husband WAY up on a scary ladder changing the light bulb on our 2nd story ceiling fan (and cleaning it for me, yuck!!), my brother and niece, a Skype call with them and a gorgeous shot my husband took of Mt Baker when we were out doing family pictures that weekend.

This layout incoorporates Scraptastic, Simon Says Stamp and Noel Mignon kits!!

Reveal for Memory Workshop - September Kit

I was totally excited to be asked to be the guest designer for the Memory Workshop September kit. Sandra owns this BC company and does monthly scrapbook kits for a very affordable price with fantastic customer service!! Check her out!!! No really... go HERE. So I was thrilled to be asked and didn't even ASK her what was in the kit before I said yes as... well I just knew whatever it was, I would like it.

I am super late getting this reveal posted too!! Not from lack of enthusiasm, but more from a rather busy change in our life recently (I'm sure more will get posted on that later!!). So, as I hang my head in shame over it's tardiness, here is the reveal:

I was asked to do 2 double page spreads with instructions (which, BTW, is harder than it sounds! I'd never typed out how I did layouts before and I tend to "eyeball" stuff so there was me obsessing over stuff with a ruler. haha) This first is a spread from, ahem, 10 years ago :) This is my eldest on his first birthday. I made him is own little chocolate cake to get into. And he did. He really really did get into it. (with a fair amount of encouragement from the older kids at the party)

Number 2 double pager is these beautiful pictures my husband took this summer from around here. We have only lived on Vancouver Island since Dec 2011 so the abundance of flowers here (like EVERYWHERE) is still amazing for us so we take pictures all the time. Like even in a mall parking lot cause there are flowers in the mall parking lot!!

Next I could do "bonus" projects with the leftovers with the request to make sure no papers were left uncut. (that sort of sounds like a Star Trek mission...yes, I'm a geek. If you've read my blog before, you'll know that). This layout was of my boys and the gaggle of boys from our street who spend the VERY LARGE portion of their summer HERE. At my house. In my house. Around my house... well, you get the idea :) This was them on the trampoline in my backyard with the sprinkler under it. They were laying down so the sprinkler would hit them full force and they could then SCREAM very loudly about it when it did. It's a boy thing!

My 2nd bonus project was this amazing picture (and really, this doesn't do it justice) of Lake Garibaldi in BC (near Whistler, BC). My husband and his brother hiked up Black Tusk mountain and this was their view. It's a glacier fed lake. Stunning.

Next, I asked Sandra was she interested in me doing some Project Life stuff with the leftovers? I always do that with my scraps and she said GO FOR IT. I am a very firm believer you do not need to buy stuff specifically for Project Life. I swear right here and now, other than some SUPER OLD alpha stickers that every single bit of this was just bits left over from the kit. I cut all the paper up into 4x6 or 3x4 cards, I used the manufacturer strip for accents (this kit was all Elle's Studio Saltwater and Elle always has AWESOME strips!!). I made best use of it all and I think it looks great. I even, sorry insert small pat on back here, was spotlighted over at Elle's Studio for this. See HERE.

And here's a 2nd page (does go beside the first in chronological order) I also did with the same scraps!.

And lastly, I took a picture of what I had left from the kit after doing all of this. I think I can safely say... I KILLED the kit. Not much left at all. Those 2 pinwheels will get used on birthday cards though and those banners together on a 3rd!

Keep scrapping and I will be back soon with a TON of stuff I got done at the Crop!! I am in full on prep mode at the moment so nothing new to show (which KILLS me!! I hate prep but... know it means I get a ton done while at the crop so I do it. UGH. )

Summer of Colour

Morning all. I have been watching Lilith Eeckel's Summer Video series since July and playing along to most (I'm still bit stumped on #3 & #4!!) and forgot to post any of them. So I will share them here with you today and link them all up. I only have a short bit to get the rest done so hope I get some scrappy inspiration :)

Video #1 - Summer colours, making them work

I used lots of the Pier collection from Crate Paper which was my ALL TIME FAV summer collection this year. I was sort of hoarding it so... I did it!! I used it :)

Video #2 - Pick 2 colours with a neutral. I find I do this alot but this one fits the bill well.

This is Elle's Studio paper with some of my own stash. I left the branding strip on the bottom and cut off the top as I thought it was a good match to all the colour in the background of the photo.

Video #5 - 2 main colours with accents. This was a stretch for me and I LOVE being challenged. I wasn't sure about it at ALL when I was finished but... I really like it now.

Mainly the blue and yellow which I drew from the pictures with a few accents of the red and pink. My inspiration for this layout was HERE

Video #6 - Ombre! I created this layout of my niece using yellowy-cream thru to darker pink and love how soft and pretty it is!

Video #7 - Mix colour with black. I did this rainbow of colour and wanted a bit long title so mixed all my black Thickers and they really popped on all that colour underneath.

Sorry, it's been too long!!

I have been posting TONS but only on Facebook groups or company challenges so... I promise to get back to posting here too. I have so much I could share but thought I'd share the BIGGEST change in my scrapbooking to date. Yes, I did it, and I swore I wouldn't... I started doing Project Life! Now, I wouldn't say I'm doing a picture a day or even doing it the same as many people do. For one, I am not doing a separate Project Life album. I am mixing it in my regular chronological albums. And two, sometimes if I cover it in Project Life, I still do a 12x12 "regular" layout about it too. Or I don't :)

I was watching a video over at Two Peas yesterday by Nancy Damiano HERE and she called using PL-style pocket protectors "Pocket Scrapbooking" rather than Project Life. She did 1 - 12x12 layout of an event and then had a TON of extra pictures to scrap. Rather than doing a double layout (or two or more!) she used pocket protectors and just did a bit of embellishing. And she mixes these into her regular album too.

I'm just doing both :) haha. For example, my boys had a double party for their summer birthdays in June. It is super hard to get kids during the summer so we did the weekend before school got out so they could have all their friends. I put their invite and pictures of their cakes on my PL spread for that week and then did a double layout too. (pictures aren't great, sorry. I snapped quick on my iPad as I just really wanted to get this blog post UP!!)

AND, as I said, I have also done PL the other way. I went on a trip to Whistler with my hubbie and friends in early June and I just really didn't want to do 5 different layouts about it. Especially as we met family on the way home and did a couple things with them. I put the highlights into a two-page PL spread and was happy it was done!!

I have two "flip-ups" on here too (bottom right of L page and top right of R page) I guess I could have done layouts as I had a lot of pictures but I really didn't feel I wanted to with these and am super happy about putting it in this format!

I also happened to have all I wanted done prior to this page so knew I'd have a blank "back" of my PL spread. I had this picture I had really liked so blew it up to 12x12 and used it as a "title" page. I may do this again as it is striking but I may also try sewing a blank 12x12 and a blank PL together if need be! But really, I'll more likely just put stuff in slightly out of order :) Sewing and me... yah, not great :)

One last PL to share is these two different weeks I did of camping. I was doing a challenge for the crop they had over at Noel Mignon a few weeks ago to use woodgrain so I did both these camping trips at the same time.

Back to school crop - Part 3

Here's the last one I was able to get done, it's for the Wood Shop "class" in the crop. We had an amazing time trying zip-lining for the first time so I was really excited to scrap these pictures. We were out in the middle of nowhere with an amazing view of the interior mountains behind us and "zipping" over a canyon that is fed by the glacier we could see. GORGEOUS!

And because Monday night was the return of Castle (my FAV tv show) I will also leave you today with something else that is GORGEOUS!! tee hee

Starting Points - Sisters

Hi all! Me again. This was supposed to be Friday's post but.. I wanted to link it up and am being too lazy to go do it tomorrow :)

I used the Starting Point over at Shimelle.com to do this layout and the inspiration for the topic was from the 20th Century class over at the Back to School crop at Noel Mignon (check BOTH out if you have time!!). For the 20th century class we needed to use pictures prior to 2000 and all I had digitally right now was from my wedding in 1997. But I found this shot of my best friend since I was 7 and I've been thinking about her lots lately so wanted to do a page saying what she means to me. We don't talk everyday and sometimes we can go months with no contact. BUT... when the other needs us, it's like we KNOW! Almost without fail if one of us has trouble or something big happening, we call the other or email and say "what's up??!!" She called my house the day, no not the day, the HOUR I was delivering my first child cause she just felt like she needed to. And we live on opposite sides of the country! (and this is before FB people, I didn't have a status of "holy crap, I'm in labour!")

So here it is: (and may I say it's fun to work with pink!)
